Man arrested after suspected arson

Police have one man in custody after responding to an arson in progress at a West End home on Friday afternoon.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Feb. 1, police patrol officers and a tactical support team arrived at a Simcoe Street home following a report of a break-and-enter involving a suspect armed with a knife, Const. Jason Michalyshen said.

The man threatened to set fire to the home and ignited some of the contents, causing smoke to billow out. The fire-paramedic service extinguished the fire and the police have one man in custody.

Aaron Hager, 31, is charged with with break and enter, arson, mischief and failing to comply.
