A man is under arrest for the slaying of his roommate, after a shocking find in a downtown trash bin revealed the city’s fifth homicide of the year.
Darren Robert Monias, 42, was slain, police confirmed on Wednesday.
Though police have remained tight-lipped about the details, citing the "sensitivity" of the situation, they have confirmed that the homicide investigation was triggered by the discovery of "suspicious circumstances" on Monday morning in a trash bin near Donald Street and York Avenue.
There have been reports that body parts were found in the trash bin.
As a result of their investigation, police arrested Monias’s roommate, Emery Miles McLeod, 38, at an apartment in the 200 block of Thomas Berry Street.
He is being held in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, charged with second-degree murder.
