Man assaults seven-year-old girl on Pacific Avenue

A man assaulted a seven-year-old girl on Pacific Avenue West Monday afternoon, police said this morning.

The girl and two 10-year-old boys were walking around 4:30 p.m. when a man, 40 to 50 years old approached them. The children did not know the man,  Patrol Sgt. Monica Stothers said.

"The male attempted to engage the youths in conversation and while doing so he assaulted the seven-year-old female by touching her over her clothing. The youths were able to alert a passer-by who came to their aid at which time, the male suspect immediately fled from the area," Stothers said. "The victims did not sustain injury as a result of the incident."

The man is described as: ''male, Caucasian, approximately 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-5 tall with an average to chubby build, grey hair with a grey beard. He was wearing a black jacket and a blue toque.''

Members of the Criminal Investigations Bureau are investigating.  Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-3296 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
