Man charged after fatal collision on reserve
A 21-year-old man from Skownan First Nation has been charged in the aftermath of a fatal collision on the reserve last fall.
On Oct. 30, Winnipegosis RCMP responded to a call about a single-vehicle collision. A 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier, travelling northbound on PR 276, had left the road and hit a tree.
Initial reports said there were five occupants in the vehicle. One passenger, a 19-year-old man from Skownan First Nation, was pronounced dead in hospital. His name was not released. The driver and other occupants were treated for undetermined injuries.
Today, RCMP announced that Donavan Josef Maud has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He is scheduled to appear in Dauphin Provincial Court on Oct.1.
Skownan First Nation is located 300 kilometres north of Winnipeg on the south shore of Waterhen Lake.
