  • Print

Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a 27-year-old man in a lengthy string of incidents in which unmanned parking meter pay stations around the city were vandalized and money stolen.

Police have charged the man with 25 separate counts of mischief and 18 counts of theft in the incidents, which date back to last December and which police estimate caused over $50,000 in damage and loss. Police say some of the incidents also involved break-ins involving unattended vehicles.

Police say the break in the case came Monday evening when a man was observed attempting to break into a pay station in the 300 block of Main Street. Nearby security noticed the man and contacted police. He was arrested at the scene a short time later.

In addition to the theft and mischief charges, the man was also charged with four counts of possession of stolen goods, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of break-in instruments and two counts of break and enter.

Grant Morrisseau has been detained in custody.
