Man charged with Internet luring

A 46-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with using the Internet to lure teenaged youth for sex.

The RCMP said its Manitoba child exploitation unit became aware of the efforts of a man to contact young teens, which triggered an investigation.

A search was conducted at a suspect’s residence on Tuesday, where two computers and related items were seized.

The RCMP said Kevin John Schmidt, 46, has been charged with three counts of luring to commit sexual interference and one count of luring to commit invitation to sexual touching.

Schmidt is scheduled to appear in Winnipeg Provincial Court Oct. 29.

The search warrants have been sealed by the court and no information is available about the investigation.
