  • Print

One man is dead following a single vehicle crash just north of Winnipeg this morning.

At approximately 4 a.m., Selkirk RCMP and emergency personnel responded to a crash in the 3700 block of Henderson Highway. Upon arrival, crews found a car in the east ditch.

A 20-year-old man from Winnipeg died in the collision. His name will not be released. RCMP indicate he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The driver, a 19-year-old woman from Winnipeg and a second passenger, a female, were taken to hospital in non-life threatening condition.

Alcohol is considered a factor.

The driver has been released from the hospital and is in police custody. She faces charges of impaired driving causing death and refusal to provide breath samples.

Early investigation shows that the driver was heading northbound on Henderson Highway when she lost control of the car and rolled.

The section of Henderson Highway was closed to traffic for a number of hours early this morning but was re-opened before 9 a.m.

The investigation continues.
