Man dies after being found on road

The storm that paralyzed southern Manitoba may have claimed a fatality near Landmark.

RCMP report a man was found unconscious early Monday morning on the side of a road near a vehicle that had crashed in a ditch.

Efforts failed to resuscitate the man and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.

RCMP say visibility and road conditions were treacherous in the area.

The victim was identified as a 54-year-old local man. His name was not released.

The location was in the heart of the winter weather bomb that closed highways across southern Manitoba Monday and caused countless accidents, including a 10-car pileup on the Trans-Canada Highway at St. Francois Xavier, west of Winnipeg.

RCMP said the man was found by a passerby unconscious on Road 45 north, off Provincial Road 210, about five kilometres north of Landmark.
