The driver of a SUV was killed Monday when his truck rolled into a ditch full of water and landed on its roof.
The vehicle was driving east on Highway 297 (Cormorant Lake Road), 25 kilometres east of the turn at Clearwater Lake, about 9 a.m. when the driver lost control, rolled and landed on the vehicle’s roof in the water, RCMP said in a news release.
The passenger of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man from Cormorant was able to escape from the partially submerged vehicle. The driver, a 29-year-old male from Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say alcohol was likely a factor in the collision.
An RCMP Forensic Collision reconstructionist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The name of the deceased will not be released.
