Man fined after cows fall onto highway
A 52-year-old man has been fined after multiple cows fell out of a trailer on a Manitoba highway.
RCMP said an injured cow was found lying on a highway east of Carberry around 11:30 a.m. this morning. Police determined the cow fell out of the back of a westbound "Gooseneck" farm trailer which was travelling from a farm in Pilot Mound to a livestock yard in Brandon.
The cow had to be put down by police, and another cow that fell out of the trailer was corralled and taken to a local livestock yard. RCMP said three other cows are still missing.
No vehicles collided with any of the cows and there were no injuries to motorists.
The driver of the trailer and cattle owner, a 52-year-old man from the RM of St. Louise, has been fined $295 under the Highway Traffic Act for transporting livestock in a manner that causes injury or unnecessary suffering.
