Man gets $8K fine for smuggling replica weapons

A Winnipeg man is facing a big fine after smuggling a cache of replica weapons.

On Monday, 21-year-old Zaeem Ahmed pled guilty to smuggling and possessing unlawfully imported goods. He was hit with an $8,000 fine and a 10-year weapons prohibition.

The conviction came after a two-year-old investigation by the Canada Border Services Agency, which seized 18 shipments of airsoft replica firearms bound for Ahmed. The investigation found Ahmed was ordering the airsofts online, shipping them to Canada and selling them locally.

Other, unspecified unlawful goods were seized by CBSA while executing a search warrant at a house.
