A man is reported dead following a susipicous fire in a downtown apartment tower.
Police are said to be investigating the death as a homicide.
Police maintained a visible presence Sunday at Holiday Towers at 160 Hargrave St. It marked the second day police were outside the building.
Emergency crews were called Saturday around 5:30 a.m. to a fire in a suite in the south tower of the twin residential towers. They reported they found a man who was badly injured and later called the incident suspicious. He was taken to hospital.
The fire, which started on the stove, caused $10,000 in damage.
At the tower Sunday, some residents said they feared the worst even before the reports of the man’s death.
"I heard somebody might have died," said one woman Sunday morning.
Laura said she watched the police at the location all day Saturday, she added.
She said the south tower was also the location of a suspicious death barely a month ago.
On June 2, police said homicide investigators had been called in after a report of a death. The body of a male was found inside a suite.
A local security guard who was keeping an eye on the address Sunday said there had been a heavy police presence Saturday but there was no word from the authorities on the investigation.
