Second shooting injures another man in Winnipeg's inner city

A shooting in Winnipeg's West End neighbourhood Saturday afternoon sent a man to hospital -- the third person injured by violence in the neighbourhood in the same day.

A man was shot in the upper body near Sargent Avenue and Langside Street around 2 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The man was rushed to hospital in unstable condition, but his condition has since improved, police said.

Just over seven hours earlier, another man was shot a few blocks away in the 400 block of Maryland Street.

Emergency personnel received reports of shots being fired in the area around 6:40 a.m. An 18-year-old man was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital in unstable condition, but police later upgraded his condition to stable.

In the third incident, a 20-year-old man was stabbed in the 500 block of Langside Street around 1:40 a.m.

Police said the man appears to have been walking near Sargent Avenue and Langside Street when two unknown men confronted him and one of them stabbed him.

The victim is in stable condition in hospital.

No arrests have been made. Police are still in the area and the major crimes unit is investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
