Man stabbed on bus, faces charges

A man was stabbed following an altercation on a Winnipeg Transit bus, police say.

According to Const. Jason Michalyshen, investigations revealed that two 20-year-old men were on a Route 11 city bus on Saturday evening travelling eastbound on Portage Avenue. A third man got on the bus and approached them. A fight erupted and as a result, one of the 20-year-old men was stabbed.

When the other 20-year-old tried to intervene, the suspect fled. The two 20-year-olds then got off the bus near Portage Avenue and Tylehurst Street and fled to a nearby home where attending officers later found them.

Police say that the victim and the suspect knew each other and had an ongoing dispute.

The victim is in stable condition and is facing charges in relation to breaching conditions of his sentence order. He was detained.

Investigations are ongoing by the Division 12 Crime Unit. Const. Michalyshen say they are reviewing surveillance footage in search of the suspect, who remains at large.
