Man submerged in ditch after rollover on Hwy. 16

A British Columbia man is in hospital after being submerged in water for several minutes after a car rolled into a ditch beside Hwy. 16 on Thursday.

Yellowhead RCMP said today the 26-year-old man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the collision at 6:30 p.m. There has been no update in his condition.

RCMP said passing motorists were able to get the man out of the 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier after attaching a tow rope to it and having a truck pull it out.

RCMP said a 28-year-old man, the driver of the car who is also from B.C., was able to get out of the vehicle on his own.

RCMP said the car went off the highway, about seven kilometres east of Shoal Lake in the RM of Strathclair, and rolled over at least once before coming to a rest upside down in the ditch filled with water.

An RCMP traffic collision analyst is helping with the investigation.
