Manitoba Hydro is trying to recruit up to 45 linesmen to leave home at Christmas to help restore power to Toronto after it was hit by a weekend ice storm.
"We’ve been asked to supply some staff to respond to ice storm issues," said Manitoba Hydro spokesman Glenn Schneider.
He said Hydro heard about the call for help when Toronto Mayor Rob Ford announced today that Manitoba Hydro workers would be called on to help. Toronto Hydro will foot the bill and details of how much the Manitoba Hydro workers who agree to leave home at Christmas to help will be paid, Schneider said.
"They’d pay all the costs," he said. "They’ve asked for personnel, not equipment, or vehicles or supplies," said Schneider.
"We don’t know when or how many they’ll end up with," he said. "It’s real hard to predict."
