New development proposed on Reenders Drive

A new 25-acre commercial development is in the works for the Regent Avenue area.

Shindico Realty is bringing a plan to the property and development committee Tuesday morning for a 25-acre parcel of land on the north side of Reenders Drive, north of Kildonan Place.

Justin Zarnowski, of Shindico, said the company plans to develop "an open air shopping centre," with 20 to 30 tenants.

The site is located along the north side of Reenders Drive, between Stapon Road and Peguis Street.

The project would be comparable to another Shindico commercial development on the west side of St. James Street, Zarnowski said, with building sizes ranging from 20,000-40,000 square feet.

Zarnowski said the adjacent vacant areas are slated for residential development and the time is right to develop the Reenders property.

Zarnowski said the project will only go ahead when Reenders is extended to Peguis Street, adding he hoped it could happen in 2014 but it may be later.
