Jury asks question while deliberating verdict on officers
The jury deliberating the fate of two Winnipeg police officers has asked a question about careless use of a firearm by one of the cops.
It was the first question the six-woman, six-man Court of Queen's Bench jury asked Chief Justice Glenn Joyal. It's the third day of deliberations.
The jury said some of them believe the accused was careless in the use of a firearm but they needed further information on what the Criminal Code says on whether the use was reasonable in the circumstances.
Const. Darrel Keith Selley is the only officer charged with that offence.
Selley and Const. Kristopher John Overwater have pleaded not guilty to various offences including attempted murder.
Kristofer Shaun Fornier, 23, was shot in the buttocks on July 16, 2007, while fleeing from police during a chase.
