Man stabbed after fight breaks out

Winnipeg police are looking for an Aboriginal man who is suspected of beating and then stabbing a man at the corner of King Street and Dufferin Avenue late Thursday night.

Police said the victim, a 37-year-old man, was initially taken to hospital in critical condition but later upgraded to unstable condition.

Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen said the assault appears to be unprovoked. The victim, he said, had just left an area bar when he was approached by the suspect who started up a conversation.

Without warning, the suspect began assaulting the victim and then fled.

The victim was initially unaware he had been stabbed until he was treated on the scene by paramedics.

The suspect is described as an Aboriginal man, between 20-25 years of age, slim build, with long hair and wearing dark clothing.
