Nurses to see 10 per cent wage increase over four years

  • Print

Thousands of Manitoba’s nurses will see wage increases of 10.1 per cent during the next four years after members of the Manitoba Nurses Union voted 91 per cent in favour of a new contract.

The deal, which will features a two per cent increase retroactively for 2013, two per cent for 2014 and a 1.1 per cent market adjustment, a two per cent increase in 2015 and a two per cent hike in 2016 plus a one per cent market adjustment, will expire March 31, 2017.

The union says the agreement also contains provisions to help patient care and workload issues.

"The positive ratification vote shows that our members felt that the agreement addressed their priorities – workload, patient safety and remaining competitive," MNU president Sandi Mowat said in a statement today.

The contract affects about 10,000 of MNU’s 12,000, members including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and registered psychiatric nurses who work in hospitals, long-term care facilities and the community.
