Osborne Village voted Canada's best neighbourhood

Canada’s greatest neighbourhood can be found right here in Winnipeg.

Osborne Village was recognized as the country’s best neighbourhood after an online vote through the Canadian Institute of Planners.

More than 200,000 e-ballots were cast by Canadians over a four-month period, with the winning locations unveiled Thursday.

The country’s top places were selected on the basis of both popularity and planning excellence as judged by a panel of experts.

Kimberley Harrison-McMillan, one of the CIP judges, said Osborne Village "has evolved into a vibrant mixed use neighbourhood. Near downtown, this century-old and densely populated community is filled with character, boasting a pedestrian-oriented and transit-supportive urban form that offers a unique collection of restaurants and shops."

Queen Street in Fredericton was named Canada’s greatest street, while Cape Forchu Lighthouse in Yarmouth, N.S., was named the country’s greatest public space.
