Give peace a chance, Winnipeg.

That’s what officials at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be asking for when the museum unveils its first temporary exhibit next month. Peace — The Exhibition will showcase Canada’s role in various wars and conflicts around the globe, including personal recollections from Canadians who were on the front lines.

The exhibit was originally developed by the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa and highlights the various ways Canadians have defined, made and kept peace at home and around the world. The subject of peace is considered on three different levels in the exhibit: how Canada negotiates to obtain and protect it; how Canada organizes and demands it; and how Canada uses force to achieve it.

A travelling version of the War Museum exhibit will be on display in Winnipeg.

"We welcome this opportunity to work with another national museum to help tell our country’s rich and diverse human rights story," CMHR president and CEO Stuart Murray said in a statement. "Peace and human rights rely on each other.

"When the Charter of the United Nations was drafted after the Second World War, respect for human rights was identified as a key pathway to world peace. The pursuit of both peace and human rights requires us to make choices, take action and uphold our responsibilities to each other as fellow human beings. That makes Peace — The Exhibition a wonderful complement to our own exploration of human rights."

The peace exhibit will be available for viewing by the public when the CMHR opens Sept. 20.
