Saskatoon man dies after being hit by semi near Richer

A man killed earlier today when he was struck by a semi-trailer on the Trans-Canada Highway is believed to be involved in the theft of a pick-up truck from a nearby residence.

RCMP were called to the scene on the highway about five kilometres east of Richer at 6 a.m.

Police said witness reports suggest the man was trying to flag down the eastbound semi when he was struck.

The deceased is a 42-year-old man from Saskatoon.

There was a pick-up truck stuck in the snow in the median nearby. Police said the truck had been stolen.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Miles Hiebert said officers can’t confirm the victim had stolen the truck and but don’t believe there was anyone else with the deceased at the time. Hiebert said members of the RCMP forensics identification unit will see if evidence places him inside the truck at any time before the collision.
