Snow plows will scrape Winnipeg streets New Year's Day.

City snow plowing crews will be kicking off the new year by hitting main streets starting Jan. 1 at 7 p.m.

The city will be announcing today a grader plowing operation of the city’s P1 and P2 streets. These are the city’s main regional streets as well as collector streets and bus routes.

To help the plowing effort, the city will implement a declared snow route parking ban starting Jan. 2 at midnight, with the ban on parking on these streets lasting daily from midnight to 7 a.m. until further notice.

In the meantime, the declared snow route parking ban that had been in effect will be lifted for Monday and Tuesday nights, giving New Year's revellers an additional two hours of late-night parking time on snow routes.

The declared snow route parking ban extends the regular annual snow route parking ban -- which is in effect daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. -- by two hours.
