Plows out in force after snows hits city

City crews will start to plow major streets today after seven centimetres of snow fell this week.
Crews will start plowing main routes, bus routes and collector streets, and a parking ban on snow routes will be in effect between midnight and 7 a.m. Vehicles parked in violation will receive a $100 ticket ($50 if paid early) and may be towed to a compound.
The overnight parking ban on snow routes will be in effect until plowing is complete.
Any vehicle in violation of the ban may also be towed to the towing company’s compound. The city is asking anyone who suspects their vehicle has been towed due to the parking ban to call 311 to locate it.
The city will start to plow back lanes on Friday morning, and crews are also working to clear sidewalks on main routes. Snow hauling operations will start downtown Sunday night, and expand to include bridges, overpasses and underpasses. Temporary no parking signs will be put up in areas, as needed.
About 300 pieces of snow-clearing equipment will be used for the plowing operation.
