Point Douglas fire causes $450,000 damage

Fourteen people were evacuated when a rooming house caught fire Friday night in Point Douglas.

The blaze began just before 11 p.m. on the third floor of a rooming house at 145 Euclid Avenue near Hallet Street.

No one was injured, but roughly 10 units were called to battle the fire, which caused $450,000 in damage to the building and its contents.

Just before midnight, firefighters were called to another, smaller fire in the West End. The fire began in a second floor suite at 777 Sargent Avenue.

There was $25,000 in smoke and water damage to parts of the six-storey apartment building. There were no injuries.
