Police arrest teens found with loaded handgun, baton

Two 14-year-old boys are in custody after police found them with a loaded handgun and a collapsible baton.

Winnipeg Police said the boys were picked up by officers on general patrol in the city’s North End, near Powers Street and Flora Avenue, just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

A search of the boys uncovered the loaded handgun and the collapsible baton – a weapon used by police.

The boys attempted to pass themselves off as someone else, which led police to discover that one of them was in violation of bail conditions.

Police said both boys are known to police but it isn’t known if they belong to any of the city’s gangs.

The boys were charged with a variety of offences, including carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon. One of the boys was also charged with impersonation and the other with two counts of breaching bail conditions.
