Police crack down on unsafe drivers

A city police crackdown on unsafe drivers  over the Thanksgiving weekend resulted in more than 300 charges and tickets handed out:

  • 234 speeding offences
  • 17 charges for using a handheld electronic device while driving
  • 62 charges for failing to wear seatbelts
  • 5 impaired driving charges

From Oct. 5-8, the Winnipeg Police Service took part in Operation Impact, a national public safety initiative endorsed by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. Its aim is to save lives and reduce injuries on the road, police said.
