Police intercept mailed gun and ammo

  • Print

A Birds Hill area man is in custody following a weapons seizure involving the Winnipeg police and the Canada Border Services Agency.

The investigation into the case dates back to July 17 when CBSA officers in Vancouver intercepted a package destined for an address in Winnipeg. The package included a .22 calibre semi-automatic handgun, two magazines associated to the handgun and a stun gun (Taser) manufactured to appear as a cellular phone.

Police, with the help of the CBSA and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, tracked down a man in the Birds Hill area last week. A search warrant was also obtained for a Winnipeg residence.

Cornell Jack Fontaine, 53, is facing a number of firearms-related charges for his alleged involvement.

It was also determined that Fontaine maintains dual residency in Arizona and Manitoba. It’s alleged he purchased and shipped the weapons from Arizona to Winnipeg.

The investigation continues.
