Police nab bike thieves in west Winnipeg

  • Print

Three males have been arrested in what police are calling a "mini crime spree" that involved mostly stealing mountain bikes and loose change.

Police say they were patrolling the area of Portage Avenue and Moray Street around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when they noticed three men riding on bicycles on the sidewalk.

After speaking with the males, police say they learned of their involvement with the crime spree. All three males — aged 15, 17 and 18 — were arrested.

The three accused are alleged to have broken into vehicles or garages in the 100 block of Dromore Avenue, 3300 block of Roblin Boulevard, 3400 block of Vialoux Drive, 300 block of Laxdal Street, first 100 block of Bramble Drive and first 1000 block of Sammons Crescent.

Six mountain bikes, a skateboard, and some loose change were stolen.

The three males were charged with property-related offences. The older two males were also charged with court-related breaches.

All three were detained in custody, police say.
