Winnipeg police issued a warning today about a phone scam.

Fraudulent telephone calls have been made with the caller identifying himself as a Manitoba Hydro associate offering to sell a "power saving device" and asking for a credit card number to expedite the order.

Police said in a press release that Manitoba Hydro offers no such product and does no telephone soliciting.

Police said anyone who’s received such a call is asked to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.If anyone has given their credit card number to the scammers, they’re asked to contact the centre as well as police.

Anyone receiving this type of call should hang up immediately, police said.
