Power restored in St. James after line comes down
Power was to be restored around 8 a.m. today to a Carriage Road apartment block, the last of a group of homes and businesses that went dark last night in St. James, Manitoba Hydro said this morning.
The power outage was far more extensive Sunday night, but power was restored to most homes between 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m.
Only the apartment block at 125 Carriage Road was left without heat or power through the night, a spokeswoman for the utility said.
She said the 86 apartments in the block lost power after a major transformer broke down. The utility has determined the transformer will have to be replaced.
The utility switched to an alternative source of power to get the heat and lights backs on.
Meanwhile, Hydro said last night’s outage was due to a power line that came down, it has since been repaired. The outage affected 400 customers in St. James along Queen and Madison streets and the commercial district along King Edward Street and Ellice Avenue.
