Province to require codes of conduct for school trustees

The province has introduced legislation that would require school boards to establish codes of conduct for school trustees.
Bill 21 (the Public Schools Amendment Act) would allow school boards to sanction a trustee who breaches the code of conduct.
The bill says that at the minimum, a code of conduct must require trustees to "act with integrity," respect others who may have differing opinions, and "keep in confidence any personal or confidential information obtained in his or her capacity as a trustee."
Education Minister Nancy Allan said Thursday outside the House that the new law was requested by Manitoba school boards.
