RBC wins naming rights to Winnipeg Convention Centre

The Royal Bank has won the bidding war for the naming rights to the Winnipeg Convention Centre.

The announcement was made this morning at a news conference held on a second-floor rooftop patio overlooking the parking lot where a $180-million-plus expansion of the convention centre will be built over the next two and a half years.

WCC president and CEO Klaus Lahr refused to say how many other companies bid for the rights or how much RBC paid.

The name change won't officially take effect until Jan. 1, 2016. The partership agreement is for a 10-year period.
