  • Print

Gillam RCMP released details Tuesday of a drug operation that involved two separate seizures of cash and marijuana over the last five months.

The most recent raid, Feb. 9, resulted in one arrest and the seizure of undisclosed amount of marijuana plus several hundred dollars in cash.

Axel Champagne, 26, of Gillam, Manitoba was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Champagne was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Gillam Provincial Court April 23.

Another two women, arrested in an earlier raid, are also set to appear in court the same day.

In the earlier seizure, on Nov. 7, 2013, Gillam RCMP raided another home in Gillam, seizing a significant amount of cash and marijuana.

Caroline Critchley, 62, of Gillam, Manitoba was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. Dorinda Hines, 45, of Gillam, Manitoba, was arrested charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

RCMP’s Winnipeg spokesman, Sgt. Rob Lockhart said the Mounties did not disclose the amount of cash or drugs seized in the pair of raids, as a matter of policy but that doesn’t mean the seizures are insignificant.

"In the north, those two seizures are welcome," he said.
