An armed assault on the mayor of West St. Paul last week is under investigation by the RCMP.
Bruce Henley was leaving the house at about 6:45 a.m. last Wednesday, October 16, when the attack occurred in his yard.
Henley was beaten with clubs and left lying beside his vehicle. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released.
Henley, 53, was not robbed, leading to speculation in the community that the motive was political.
Henley declined to be interviewed but issued a statement late Monday, confirming the attack. "My family and I sincerely appreciate the thoughts and well wishes received from members of the community," he said.
"Particular thank-you to the police and the 911 dispatchers and the responding Emergency Medical Service personnel for their prompt response and professionalism."
No arrests have been made.
