Family identifies teen killed in beating

Family members have identified the 16-year-old boy who died on the weekend following a savage beating as Paris Rene Cameron Bruce.

Winnipeg police said Bruce, whose name they would not disclose, was badly beaten on the street in the 300-block of Aberdeen Avenue on the morning of Sept. 4.

Bruce was taken to hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries Sept. 7.

Police said Bruce was a member of a local street gang and it’s possible his attackers were members of a rival gang.

An obituary describes Bruce, known to his family as "Little Parrot," as "a colourful boy who always had a smile on his face." He enjoyed video games, movies, sketching and trying new foods, family said.

The teen's funeral will be held Friday.
