At today's Santa Claus parade you may want to pack a tarp along with that blanket.

With 60,000 people expected to crowd into downtown later today for the parade at 5 p.m. this evening, our mild weather means wet pavements and sidewalks.

Mild and cloudy. High 1 Celsius.

If you want your kiddlies to stay warm, you’re going to have guard against the damp and the cold so taking a tarp, to line the curbs and lawnchairs before you cosy up in a blanket is probably a sensible precaution.

Environment Canada says Saturday will be cloudy, and while temperatures at the Richardson Interntional Airport hovered around -9 in the morning, they’ll rise as the clouds move in. There were patches of fog this morning and they’ll be back this evening. Overnight, lows dip down to -7 and come back up to highs of 4 Sunday, when the sun comes back.

One final word of advice comes from the Winnipeg police Saturday morning: it’s the start of the holiday season and there are thieves out there, they say. Keep track of your valuables as the holiday season kicks off.
