Seatbelt use a factor in rollover death

A 29-year-old man died after he was thrown from a van following an early morning crash in the R.M. of Alonsa.

Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP said a 2003 Dodge Caravan was travelling southbound on Hwy 278 with three occupants around 4:30 a.m. Saturday when it rolled over. The 21-year-old woman who was driving the vehicle and a 29-year-old man were not injured.

A third passenger, a 29-year-old man, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said there were no other people or vehicles involved in the collision.

An RCMP traffic analyst attended the scene and police said seatbelt use is considered a factor in the fatal crash.

Police continue to investigate.
