Selkirk resident pulls $1-million winning stamp off coffee cup

Black gold took on a new connotation when a Selkirk resident's coffee at McDonald's turned into a $1 million prize in the restaurant's Monopoly contest.
The customer pulled a "Collect and Win" game stamp off his coffee cup to find out he'd won the $1 million. The Monopoly contest was launched Sept. 25. The contest is now closed.
The winner will be identified on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the McDonald's location at Main Street and Selkirk Avenue in Selkirk where the coffee was purchased.
It's the first Canadian winner of $1 million in the contest in five years, according to a McDonald's spokeswoman.
The prize will be distributed in 20 annual payments of $50,000, the spokeswoman said.
McDonald's owns and operates over 1,400 restaurants and employs more than 80,000 people across Canada.
