Outgoing Winnipeg chief administrative officer Phil Sheegl is expected to receive almost a half-million dollars in compensation from the city this year.
Sheegl, who resigned from the city on Thursday, has received a severance package equal to one year’s worth of salary, sources have confirmed.
Sheegl earned $242,000 in 2012 and is expected to have a base salary slightly higher this year. Pro-rated for 10 months, that works out to approximately $200,000 in 2013 salary payments.
One year’s worth of severance brings Sheegl’s expected compensation to $443,000, before any additional payouts for benefits and other forms of compensation.
The severance package was approved by city council’s executive policy committee in a closed-door meeting on Thursday morning.
Mayor Sam Katz and every member of that committee refused to comment on the severance package, citing the confidentiality surrounding personnel issues.
The total compensation figure, however, will be revealed on July 1, 2014, when the city publishes its annual Compensation Disclosure.
Sheegl resigned on Thursday, citing negative publicity surrounding the fire-paramedic station replacement program.
A review into that program is expected out on Monday.
