The run-of-the-mill stop of a teenage cyclist riding on a sidewalk led to a serious weapons arrest in the West End on Thursday.
Police were patrolling the area of Maryland Street and Ellice Avenue when they stopped a 16-year-old boy who was riding his bike in an unsafe way.
After a conversation with the cyclist, the patrol officers searched the boy's backpack and found a loaded sawed-off shotgun with missing serial numbers.
The boy was arrested and released on a promise to appear. He's facing a series of weapons-related charges, including carrying a concealed weapon or ammunition.
