An extended moment of silence is being observed at The Forks today.
A Circle of Silent Contemplation is scheduled to take place from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. by the statue of Gandhi near the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
People of all faiths (and none), along with local human rights organizations, are encouraged to attend.
The silent contemplation is in response to the violence in Gaza, Israel, Ukraine, Syria, Libya and in many other places around the world.
Organizers request participants refrain from bringing flags or signs to the event.
