Stranded boaters rescued after 16 hours on lake

Three people have been rescued after their boat ran out of gas leaving them stranded on Paint Lake for 16 hours without any means of communication, RCMP said today.

About 11:30 p.m. Tuesday Thompson RCMP had received a report of three overdue boaters, two men and a woman, on the lake located in the Paint Lake Provincial Park, south of Thompson.

An RCMP boat searched for over six hours ,and covered approximately 120 kilometres, before locating the stranded boaters. They were in good condition and uninjured when found.

Early Wednesday morning a Manitoba Conservation helicopter had performed an aerial search of the general area, but did not locate the boaters.
