Stranger tries to get boy, 11, to go with him

A stranger approached an 11-year-old and tried to get the boy to leave the area with him Friday afternoon on River Avenue, police say.

Winnipeg police went to the 100 block of River at about 1:05 p.m. The boy told them he was playing when the man approached him.

People nearby came to help the boy and the man left, police said. The boy wasn't injured.

The man is described as Caucasian, about six feet tall and 250 pounds, with dark hair and wearing grey and white clothing, a navy cap and sunglasses. He was carrying a duffle bag.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call them at 204-986-6222 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
