String of assaults keeps Winnipeg police hopping

Saturday night (and early Sunday morning) were alright for fighting in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Police were kept busy dealing with a string of stabbings and assaults around town.

Officers were called to a hospital around 3 a.m. after a 52-year-old man was admitted suffering from stab wounds. He was reportedly confronted by upwards of three males near the corner of William Avenue and Ellen Street, where he was assaulted and stabbed.

He is in stable condition and no arrests have been made in the case.

Just after 11 p.m. Saturday night, a 47-year-old man and a friend were approached by a group of unknown males in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Isabel Street. The friend was able to flee the area but the man was assaulted and robbed of both the liquor he had just purchased and some personal property.

He is in stable condition with stab wounds. The suspects fled the scene and no arrests have been made.

About 30 minutes earlier, a 42-year-old man was assaulted with a weapon in the 100 block of Lisgar Avenue.

He is in stable condition but has declined to provide officers with any information about the assault.
