Suspect faces 45 charges after string of break-ins

  • Print

Winnipeg police have arrested a suspect in connection with a spate of break-ins last year that saw multiple residences— often on the same street — burglarized.

Ros Melnyk, 20, was arrested this week and now faces 45 charges, 35 of them relating to separate break-and-enters between March 12, 2013 and mid-February.

Melnyk's method of operation appears to have been somewhat stealthy, court records suggest.

In addition to the break-in and theft allegations, Melynk is also accused of possessing "lock picking tools," such as a pick-gun and a "hand-held high frequency hearing device" suitable for the purpose of cracking safes or vaults at the time of his arrest on Wednesday.

Homes on the streets of Kildare Avenue East, Edison Avenue, Munroe Avenue and Prevette Street were targeted multiple times, according to the records.

Melnyk has no history of convictions in Manitoba, provincial court records show.
