Suspect sought in sexual assault in West End

A woman was walking in the West End when she was sexually assaulted after a man walked up to her and started a conversation on Saturday.

Winnipeg police said today the 19-year-old woman was out walking near Isabel Street and William Avenue at 7:30 a.m., when a man walked up and joined her.

Police said the pair continued to talk until they got to Burnell Street when the man grabbed the woman and committed a serious sexual assault.

The man is described as Aboriginal, 25 to 30 years of age, five-foot-seven, with a skinny build and short hair, and wearing a blue jacket.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Sex Crimes Unit at 204-986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
