Teacher walkout to shut 17 N.W. Ontario elementary schools

All 17 elementary public schools from Kenora north to Pickle Lake and east to Upsala will be closed Tuesday because of the ongoing dispute between the Ontario government and its teachers.

Teachers are walking out of several school districts each day on a rotating basis, having previously withdrawn their extracurricular services.

Keewatin-Patricia District School Board serves the communities of Kenora, Sioux Narrows, Vermilion Bay, Ear Falls, Red Lake, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Pickle Lake, Savant Lake and Upsala.

Board officials have advised parents that daycares located in schools will be open, but before and after school programs will not operate.

High schools are not affected, and elementary schools will operate normally on Wednesday.
