An 18-year-old man is facing numerous charges in connection with a brief chase involving Winnipeg police Saturday morning.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., police said officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of Crystal Avenue and St Anne’s Road.

The suspect did not pull over. After a quick computer check on the vehicle, officers found the vehicle had been reported stolen the day before.

A pursuit ensued but police said officers aborted the chase due to the unsafe driving of the suspect.

Minutes later, the driver lost control of the stolen vehicle and struck a tree in the 100 block of Crystal Avenue. The suspect took off on foot and after a brief struggle in which officers used a Taser, he was eventually apprehended and arrested.

The man suffered unspecified injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Members of the central traffic unit are investigating the incident.
